Facts About the
School
ACCREDITATION
The American School is accredited by the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools as a Special Function School. In addition, it is fully recognized as a
nonpublic secondary school by the Illinois State Board of Education.
STUDENT BODY
The American School has enrolled over three million students since 1897. Approximately
50,000 students throughout the world are currently enrolled in its various programs. The
School serves many students in the entertainment and sports fields, as well as missionary,
diplomatic, and industrial personnel and their families. We are also proud to serve many
public and private high school and evening school students enrolled in our Independent
Study programs.
COMPULSORY SCHOOL AGE POLICY
It is the policy of the American School that enrollments of students under the
compulsory school attendance age requirements of the state in which they reside must
comply with the laws of their state. For many states this requires permission of local
school officials. In such cases, if the necessary permission for enrollment is not
obtained, by the parent or guardian, prior to submission of the enrollment application,
the American School will write to the appropriate school official requesting permission.
Failure to receive the necessary authorization will result in termination of the student's
enrollment under the cancellation terms of the enrollment agreement.
GRADUATES
Our list of graduates is international in scope, covering 50 states, the District of
Columbia, Canada, and many foreign countries.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The American School awards annually a $2,000 R. T. Miller Scholarship,
a $2,000 Henry
Buresh Scholarship, a $2,000 William L. Wright, President Emeritus Scholarship, and fifteen
scholarships of $1,000 each to its outstanding graduates to further their education.
NONDISCRIMINATORY POLICY
The American School admits students of any race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin
to all the rights, privileges and activities generally accorded or made available to
students of the School. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex,
national and ethnic origin in its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship
programs, and other School administered programs.
