Wednesday, November 18, 2009 New Child Care Course Arrives The American School's Curriculum department has released a new version of the Child Care course. Students who take this course will study the care and guidance of children from infancy through adolescence. The focus of the course is on the physical, intellectual, and emotional/social development of the child at each stage of his or her life as well as on the role of the caregiver in promoting the child's well-being at each stage. In completing this course students are asked, among other things, to apply what they have learned to determine appropriate actions that a caregiver might take in a wide range of situations and will take six unit examinations to earn one credit. For more details on how to enroll in Child Care or any of our courses, visit the rest of our web site for course descriptions and enrollment applications. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 Happy 40th Birthday, Sesame Street! It's November 10, and on this date in 1969, Sesame Street aired for the very first time. In the 40 years that followed, millions of children grew up with the show and were both entertained and educated. They not laughed along with Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Elmo and countless other lesser-known but still-beloved characters such as Guy Smiley, but they also learned the alphabet and numbers and values such as respect and teamwork. Even though the American School only offers high school courses, we value education at all levels. Shows like Sesame Street provide youngsters with a good educational foundation, and we are proud to build upon that educational foundation once students are ready for high school. Monday, November 09, 2009 Andre Agassi Autobiography Now Available Andre Agassi's autobiography "Open" is on sale now wherever books are sold. You may have heard about this in the media or read excerpts from the book itself in the past couple weeks. Autobiographies attempt to paint the entire picture of a person, complete with good points and bad. While we do not condone everything in Mr. Agassi's autobiography, we are proud to count him among our graduates because he has done many good things both on and off the tennis court. We also want to clarify one published report which claimed that Mr. Agassi was a high school dropout and never graduated high school. This is untrue. He used the American School to earn his high school diploma and graduated in 1988. We cannot stress enough how proud we are of all our graduates, whether they become famous or not, and we hope that, if you choose to read Mr. Agassi's book, you find in it something that will motivate you to become the best person you can be.
